BGP-4

Design and Configuration

ExperTeach Networking Logo

BGP-4 has become the routing protocol of choice if large volumes of routing information have to be dealt with. It is used by Internet service providers both between Autonomous Systems (AS) and within the AS. Moreover, BGP-4 plays an important role in connecting large-scale customers with multi-homing. The participants will acquire know-how on BGP-4, which can be directly used for the configuration and optimization of their proper enterprise networks. In the process, the course imparts the competence required to configure networks by oneself and perform successful Internet routing. This knowledge is also needed for the setup and operation of an MPLS-based VPN backbone.

Course Contents

  • Setup, Working Mode, and Functions of BGP-4
  • Attributes
  • Communities
  • Routing with BGP-4
  • Routing Strategies in the Internet (Providing, Peering)
  • Definition of Routing Policies
  • Route Server and Internet Exchange Points
  • Multi-Homing
  • Comparison with Interior Gateway Protocols, such as OSPF
  • Modern Features and Development in BGP-4
  • Security in BGP-4
  • Hands-On Exercises at the Test Network

Target Group

The course addresses designers and operators of large-scale, private IP networks, as well as employees of Internet service providers, who are responsible for the optimization of the routing between autonomous systems. They will receive many hints and approaches to solutions to establish BGP concepts and to implement them.

Knowledge Prerequisites

A profound knowledge of the protocol details of the TCP/IP world, as well as a solid understanding of IP routing are necessary requirements for a successful attending of the course. Participation in the course TCP/IP is strongly recommended.

Classroom training

Do you prefer the classic training method? A course in one of our Training Centers, with a competent trainer and the direct exchange between all course participants? Then you should book one of our classroom training dates!

Hybrid training

Hybrid training means that online participants can additionally attend a classroom course. The dynamics of a real seminar are maintained, and the online participants are able to benefit from that. Online participants of a hybrid course use a collaboration platform, such as WebEx Training Center or Saba Meeting. To do this, a PC with browser and Internet access is required, as well as a headset and ideally a Web cam. In the seminar room, we use specially developed and customized audio- and video-technologies. This makes sure that the communication between all persons involved works in a convenient and fault-free way.

Online training

You wish to attend a course in online mode? We offer you online course dates for this course topic. To attend these seminars, you need to have a PC with Internet access (minimum data rate 1Mbps), a headset when working via VoIP and optionally a camera. For further information and technical recommendations, please refer to.

Tailor-made courses

You need a special course for your team? In addition to our standard offer, we will also support you in creating your customized courses, which precisely meet your individual demands. We will be glad to consult you and create an individual offer for you.
