The VMware Certified Technical Associate (VCTA) is a technical certification for beginners that ends with an exam. Various e-learnings are recommended for preparation depending on the topic area, which are included in the VMware Customer Connect Learning - Premium Subscription. The VCTA is recommended but not a prerequisite for the more advanced certifications.
The VMware Certified Professional (VCP) requires a Professional exam in each case, which varies by specialty. In addition, depending on the technology track, a Foundation exam is required in advance. Practical experience with the solution is recommended. For VMware newcomers, the course VMware vSphere: Install, Configure, Manage is suitable as a basis. Attendance of an authorized training course from the respective topic area is required to be eligible for the VCP certification.
Written exams are taken at a Pearson VUE Authorized Center.
As of February 5, 2019, VMware certifications no longer have a mandatory recertification requirement.
