IPv6 Networking

Network Architecture and Protocols

ExperTeach Networking Logo

IPv6 is now present in many networks. Not only because of the IPv4 address shortage, but also to be prepared for the future. Not only the end device side, but also the network infrastructure must be suitably prepared.

While Ethernet switches simply pass through IPv6 data on layer 2, routers require an IPv6 configuration. If the aim is to make remote destinations accessible via IPv6, routing, routing protocols and sometimes MPLS are also called into action.

In this IPv6 course, we cover the most important routing protocols for IPv6 in detail and also highlight the differences to the existing protocols for IPv4. The picture is rounded off with auxiliary protocols such as SLAAC, DNS, DHCPv6, IPSec and TLS.

We put the theoretical concepts explained in the course into practice in a lab environment so that you can consolidate your understanding.

Course Contents

  • Motivation and IPv6 recapitulation
  • IPv6 auxiliary protocols
  • Routing with IPv6
  • Border Gateway Protocol (BGP)
  • OSPFv3
  • IS-IS
  • Security hardening for routing protocols
  • IPv6 in MPLS networks
  • IPv6 security: IPSec and TLS
  • DNS and IPv6
  • DHCPv6

The detailed digital documentation package, consisting of an e-book and PDF, is included in the price of the course.

Target Group

This course is aimed at network specialists who want to learn about the use and configuration of IPv6 in the network infrastructure.

Knowledge Prerequisites

Solid knowledge of IPv4 is essential for successful participation. Basic knowledge of IPv6 addressing is also desirable.

Course Objective

You will gain a detailed understanding of how IPv6 works in the network infrastructure. Using practical lab exercises, you will get to know the possibilities of routing with IPv6 and which variant makes sense to use.

The live analysis of the protocol processes in the lab deepens your understanding of how it works and facilitates implementation and subsequent troubleshooting.
